25 Jun 2019 : Free-scoring Freddie Potter eyes more goals at Runcorn Linnets

When it comes to goals, you can bank on Freddie Potter and Runcorn Linnets' top scorer for three of our last four seasons is ready to cash in once again, after confirming he'll be back in the front line for the campaign ahead.

The talismanic 31-year-old striker fittingly scored the first and final goals of the club'sEVO-STIK League debut season - also retaining the President's Award, which he had won as leading scorer in our title-winning Hallmark Security League Premier Division season of 2017-18.

Freddie had first taken the accolade in 2015-16.

He was also the overwhelming winner of a fans' vote for 2018-19's Goal of the Season. This is another trophy he has captured twice in succession and three times in all - although in 2014-15 the honour was shared with his now manager, Michael Ellison.

Many supporters attending the league game at Mossley reckoned his latest winning effort, an instinctive overhead kick, was the best goal they had ever seen "live".

Unfortunately, this was one of the rare occasions when there was no photographer present to capture the moment but for those who made the trip it was clearly a joy to behold!

Freddie's Linnets career record stands at 75 goals from 138 appearances - a highly impressive return from a player, who is equally adept in the air and on the ground.

Add to that a big presence and excellent workrate, it is little wonder that all at The Millbank Linnets Stadium are delighted that he is staying.

Manager Michael Ellison said:

"It's clear for everyone to see what Freddie brings to the party. With his goalscoring exploits over the past few seasons, he's become a talisman for the club and a fans' favourite.

"When you actually see his goals to games ratio in black and white, it is quite exceptional and I do believe there is still more to come.

"He was really unfortunate last season with injuries which limited his game time - certainly in the second part of the season.

"I know he's looking forward to a good pre-season and if he can stay injury free, I'm sure we will see plenty more goals.

"It's great news for the club he's committed to another season."
