18 Jun 2019 : Runcorn Linnets sign central defender Louis Coyne from Prescot Cables

Runcorn Linnets have announced young centre back Louis Coyne as their first new recruit for the coming season, the player joining from EVO-STIK League Division One neighbours Prescot Cables.

Louis, 21, had first arrived at Prescot in December 2016 on loan from Chorley. He had by that time already served Runcorn Town, who he had joined in September of the same year (making three starts plus one appearance as sub) and also Burscough.

Louis helped Cables to reach the EVO-STIK League Division One North play off final in May 2018 - Prescot losing 1-0 away to Bamber Bridge - and retain the Liverpool Senior Cup as they beat Marine in the 2017-18 final at Crosby.

The summer of 2018 ironically saw the player move to the Mariners of EVO-STIK Premier. However, in the first week of September, he was reluctantly released by Marine so he could return to Prescot.

It was around the same time that Peter Wylie, a Runcorn centre back regular last season, departed the Mariners for The Millbank so the pair are already acqainted.

Louis began his career with Rochdale as a youth tram regular.

He didn't appear for Prescot in either game against us last season but was a non-playing sub in the game at Volair Park.

Louis' 20 league appearances for Cables in 2018-19 included 14 starts.

Linnets boss Michael Ellison said:

"Louis is a great signing for us he has the attributes that I look for in a centre half.

"He a big lad, good in the air and he can play as well.

"He had a number of clubs chasing his signature. I'm delighted he chose Runcorn and I'm looking forward to working with him."
