17 May 2019 : Marathon man Kris Holt is ready to go the extra mile with Runcorn again

Kris Holt is one of those players who just keeps on going in every game - and by agreeing a further extension to his Runcorn Linnets career, he is again showing unquestionable staying power.

It was a trait he needed in abundance late in a very demanding last season when, in the middle of a busy run of fixtures, he took time out to run the Greater Manchester Marathon.

Holty required all his energies to get round the 26.219-mile course, raising valuable funds for the Greater Manchester Foundation Trust charity in the process.

He'd played a full game the day before the run, turning in a typically hard-working shift, and followed up the next weekend by completing all but 10 minutes of the 90.

It was a very special effort, even by Holty's own standards, coming as it did at a time when the rigours of the campaign were catching up with even the fittest.

Kris is another Linnet who sacrificed himself in the team cause during an injury-hit run-in by taking on a change of position.

As injured team mates now prepare to come back for the forthcoming season, he will relish the prospect of being released from the defensive shackles of emergency duties as a holding midfielder and taking up his more customary role in support of the attacking players.

Holty is just two games short of a century of competitive Linnets appearances and once he has reached the landmark, fans will be firmly hoping there are many more appearances to come.

"What can I say about Holty? He's a huge part of what we do here both on and off the pitch," said manager Michael Ellison.

"He's played in a lot of different positions for us over the past three seasons and hasn't looked out of place in any of them.

"Once again, he's had a fantastic season and with all the injuries we've had stepped up and made that holding midfield position his own.

"I'm still not happy about him running marathons during the season though!!".
