16 Aug 2019 : Connor McCarthy seals Runcorn Linnets return
Striker Connor McCarthy is back at Runcorn Linnets - eight months after leaving for Warrington Town.
Connor made a big impression in his first Linnets stint, the player's influence reaching well beyond his five goals in 15 games.
There was great disappointment, therefore, when the experienced former National League player stepped back up to the Northern Premier League's Premier Division with Warrington in December 2018.
Connor returns after appearing for Warrington in our final pre-season friendly at the Millbank Linnets Stadium last weekend.
Linnets manager Michael Ellison said: " I think everyone got a glimpse of what Connor brings to the side in his short spell with us last year so when there was an opportunity to resign him I jumped at the chance.
"He will add another dimension to an already capable front line and I'm delighted to have him back on board."
Connor first arrived at Linnets in September 2018, having been a regular at FC United in National League North the previous season - scoring nine goals in 42 appearances for the breakaway Reds.
His industrious style and "team player" qualities made him an instant Linnets fans favourite.
Having begun his career at Prescot Cables and Skelmersdale, Connor was signed by Southport where he played in the top division of the National League.
While at the Sandgrounders, he spent time on loan at AFC Telford United before joining the Shropshire club on a permanent deal in September 2016.
After a being loaned to Warrington early in 2017, Connor was allowed to leave by Telford at the end of 2016-17 and moved to FC United in July 2017.
Throughout his career, Connor has been renowned for his work rate and commitment.
He won our Bowland Brewery Player of the Month award for October.
Connor is now reunited on the field with his brother (and Runcorn Linnets midfielder) Ronnie.
