07 Sep 2019 : Bayleigh takes the Player of the Month plaudits at Runcorn Linnets

The new season has brought a number of new players to Runcorn Linnets, and none of them have impressed more than the club's first Bowland Brewery Player of the Month in 2019-20, teenage goalkeeper Bayleigh Passant, writes STE BIGNALL.

Appearing towards the latter stages of pre-season, the Tranmere Rovers loanee is slight in frame but huge in ability.

He was voted Man of the Match in his first competitive game for the club, earning us an opening day point against Pontefract Collieries in a game that we could well have lost had it not been for a superb goalkeeping display.

And a week later, Bayleigh repeated the feat and was voted MOTM again in the FA Cup defeat at Atherton Collieries, a standout performance keeping the Linnets in the cup-tie right through to the dying seconds.

Bayleigh performed well once again in our first win of the season against City of Liverpool on Bank Holiday Monday, and stood up to be counted at the death to preserve a hard-earned point in the North East against Dunston.

Bayleigh made a tremendous save in injury time with his team having overturned a three-goal deficit.

I genuinely can't remember a goalkeeper making such an immediate impact at the club, let alone a goalkeeper just 18 years of age.

Bayleigh is highly thought of at his parent club, Tranmere and Michael Ellison has pulled a real rabbit out of the hat in bringing him to The Millbank and helping Bayleigh gain experience of competitive football at a good level.

It's been great start for the youngster, and long may it continue!
