05 Mar 2018 : Paul Ramsden, Runcorn Linnets fundraiser and founder Board member, passes away
IT is with deep regret and huge sadness that Runcorn Linnets announce the death of our great friend, Paul Ramsden.
Paul passed away in the early hours of this morning, after a very brave battle with cancer.
One of the Linnets' biggest fans, Paul was also a major fundraiser for the club.
He was perhaps best known to many of our fans through selling match day raffle tickets at The Millbank Linnets Stadium. This was a labour of love he carried out until very recently.
Prior to that, Paul had been our merchandising officer - making many a trip to grounds with shirts, coats and hats to ensure our supporters were kitted out.
Paul was a founder Trust Board member of the club in 2006 and later became Trust secretary but above all, he was an extremely loyal and long-standing follower of the Linnets whose love for the club, old and new, was undiminished through contrasting times and fortunes at Canal Street, Widnes, Prescot and Witton Albion.
A regular supporter, home and away, Paul approached his illness with a great deal of courage, positivity and determination and had particularly enjoyed his football this season, his great hope being that the team would finally gain promotion.
Our players will be wearing black arm bands this evening and thanks to our friends at Widnes FC, we will also be remembering Paul with a minute's applause ahead of the derby game at The Select Security Stadium.
We will again recognise Paul's immense contribution to Runcorn Linnets at our next home match.
The club offers its deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to Paul's wife Kath, their sons Matt and Nick and extended family.
Rest in Peace, Paul - you will forever be in our thoughts and never be forgotten at The Millbank Linnets Stadium.
