Ryan Gibson

Position : Forward

In his first full season at The Millbank, home towner Ryan Gibson made a very good impression over his five months in the ranks, after joining from local football.

From the moment he took the field as a substitute in December 2018's midweek Integro Cup win at EVO-STIK League Premier Division side Hyde United, the dashing winger has made light of what is a considerable step up from the Chester & Wirral League.

Scoring a last-gasp equaliser on home debut against Glossop North End the following Saturday, Ryan has more than justified Michael Ellison's decision to draft the in player from Helsby FC and swiftly give him a chance.

Ryan has the rare gift of being able to take on and beat opposing defenders at pace and he has firmly established himself in Linnets colours - despite not always playing in his preferred position.

Ryan has shown his versatility by turning out in central midfield as and when required.

April saw Ryan being rewarded with the club's final Bowland Brewery Player of the Month award of 2018-19 and manager Runcornian front man Ryan signed on December 1st 2018, on the morning of our away game at Ramsbottom United, and was a non-playing substitute in the 3-2 EVO-STIK League West victory.

He was again named on the bench for the next two matches and had a significant impact on the results.

Ryan's second-half introduction, along with that of fellow sub Freddie Potter in the midweek Integro Cup last 16 tie at Hyde United helped to turn the contest in favour of the Linnets.

We came from behind to level at 1-1 with a penalty shoot win sending us through.

Ryan completed another rescue act on his home debut against Glossop North End with an injury-time equaliser in strong winds and heavy rain at The Millbank as the Linnets came from two 2-0 behind in the last seven minutes to grab a point.

Ryan joined us from Chester & Wirral League club Helsby for whom he had netted six times in two Cheshire Amateur Cup ties earlier in 2018-19 season.

Runcorn Linnets would like to thank Paul Riley & Kev Jones who have kindly sponsored Ryan Gibson.
