Mark Houghton

Position : Forward

Mark began his playing career at the top of the non-league ladder with Southport in the Football Conference, scoring a number of times against sides who are now in the Football League.

He joined Skelmersdale United in 2010 and later moved to Chorley under the guidance of Garry Flitcroft where he won the Northern Premier League First Division North title before returning to Skem.

The fast-moving striker joined Runcorn Linnets FC in December 2012 and scored in the club's League Challenge Cup Final victory over Formby in May 2013.

Mark has had a major influence with his consistency, knack of popping up with important goals and versatility.

He can play in the wide positions, behind the front men or as the main striker - a role he successfully adopted in the 4-1 win over Irlam which got our 2016-17 season up and running.

Mark scored a crucial equaliser before half-time before chipping in with another in the second half as the Linnets posted a first win of the season to end newly-promoted Irlam's long unbeaten run in league football. The player continued to revel in his return to front line action and the first of his two goals in early October's 5-0 home defeat of Bootle was his 50th for the Linnets.

Houghto's strong on-field contribution and loyalty to Runcorn Linnets had in pre-season been rewarded with the vice-captaincy. A memorable summer was completed when he got married!

Runcorn Linnets would like to thank Maxwell Hodge Solicitors who has kindly sponsored Mark Houghton. Why not visit their website at http://www.maxwellhodge.co.uk/.
